The report notes that it is being co-developed with Certain Affinity, and while it started out as a battle royale, it might evolve into something else. Crystal Dynamics and CD Projekt Red are both using Unreal Engine 5 to develop the next Tomb Raider and Witcher, respectively, while Hangar 13 is reportedly using it to make the next Mafia game. If 343 does switch to Unreal, this would mark yet another studio abandoning its engine in favor of Epic’s popular one. The reason this is even worth considering in 2022 is largely because Halo Infinite has given Microsoft’s biggest video game series a new lease of life. Right now, the next game in the ongoing Halo series will be called Halo 5: Guardians, and it is expected to be released in the fall of 2015.
